Part-Time Custodian

Bishop Noll Institute is hiring a part-time (25 hours/week) custodian to join our maintenance team. Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager and Maintenance Team Leader, the custodian performs various cleaning, upkeep and maintenance tasks inside school facilities and on school grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary. Hours must be flexible, and will include working evenings and weekends to coincide with after-school assemblies and activities, including (but not limited to) athletic events held at our newly renovated outdoor facilities.
Duties will be wide-ranging and frequently changing to meet the needs of the school. Essential functions will include:
  • Checking and securing facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Helping clean and maintain any and all areas of the campus according to Bishop Noll standards.
  • Setting up and breaking down for instruction, assemblies, meetings, Masses, etc.
  • Providing for safe entry and exit to facilities for all while personally following all safety protocols mandated by the school and the Diocese of Gary.
  • Perform any tasks assigned by supervisors or school leadership.
Requirements:
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently, to follow oral or written work orders, to coordinate work with school administrators and others, and to communicate maintenance issues as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or snow.
  • Ability to work safely above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
Qualifications Profile:
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position. 
  • Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
  • Physically able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, including ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch; use arms, hands and fingers; talk and hear.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate professional cleaning equipment.
  • Exhibits a cheerful, professional and customer-service oriented attitude to all students, employees and visitors.
  • Follows instructions, being especially mindful of quality, efficiency, cleanliness and safety.
